Winery
The GOURON Family has been producing wine for five generations in their estate of Cravant les Coteaux. Their 30 hectares (72.30 acres) estate Domaine GOURON is entirely located within the Chinon Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée.
Throughout the year, they take great care of their vines to get the best maturity and natural lower yields. To reach the desired concentration and expression from their Cabernet Franc, the Gouron family utilizes green-covering in each row, very short pruning and reduced foliage. Each parcel is then harvested and vinified separately in order to keep and reveal the expression of each terroir. The gravely-sandy soil on the plain or sandy-limestone hilltops provide unctuous and tender fruity wines for the Red & Rosé Cuvées Domaine, while chalky-limestone or limestone siliceous slopes provide more concentrated wines for the Vieilles Vignes or Special Cuvees aged in oak barrels. Caves under the hillside of the estate extend for several hundreds of meters and offer the perfect natural temperature conditions for aging and storage of the Domaine GOURON wines.

Chinon 2008
Terroir: Gravel, silex and sandy soils
100% Cabernet Franc
“A nice old-school style, with mulled anise, blackberry and fig bread notes backed by sweet tapenade. The toast is subtle and integrated, while the finish lets a sanguine hint peek in.”

Chinon 2009
Terroir: Gravel, silex and sandy soils
100% Cabernet Franc
“This is nicely focused, offering a savory herb note to hold together the core of black cherry, damson plum, and red currant fruit. Hints of licorice and iron check in on the finish. A very solid red. Drink now through 2013.”
90 Points, Wine Spectator, October 2011
