Schmid

Winery

In 1865, the Schmid family-founded 14 hectares (34.6 acres) winery wnear Krems (Lower Austria), since 1991 they carry it on. Wine is a precious product, and they are proud of their Gruner Veltliner and their Rieslings, the results of hard work combined with know-how, understanding, and passionate idealism.

Since 2008 the Krems-valley is the fourth wine-growing area in Austria with the allowance to use “DAC” as a sign for high quality standards typical for the region. The Schmid family are especially proud of having been elected number one in Falstaff-DAC-Cup with their Gruner Vetliner vineyards Krems at the first attempt.

The main part of the vineyards is situated in Stratzing, on an elevated plain between Krems and Langenlois, on terraces near Senftenberg, in the Krems-valley, and surrounding the town of Krems. Based on the soil in this area and in combination with the various micro-climates, nature provides this vineyard a wide range of conditions for growing Gruner Vetliner, Rieslings, Muscatel, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnays, and also for Zweigelts and Cabernet Sauvignons.

A note from the wine maker: “Fruit comes before alcohol” – I am a so-called “drinker with my nose”. My wines must be clearly structured and they need to have aroma and elegance. What we get out of our soil results in fineness and my passion is creating wines with personality.
